Super Bowl News
Are you thinking about Super Bowl tickets yet?
Hundreds of tickets are already available to the big game in Arizona on after-market Web sites such as StubHub and TicketsNow. But Cowboys fans who believe the team will go all the way should be prepared to pay a pretty penny.
The cheap seats for the Feb. 3 game at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale start around $3,000. If you want to see the game in grand style, a luxury suite in the end zone for 20 people is priced at $287,500 on TicketsNow.
Of course, the Cowboys need to get past the New York Giants and win the NFC Championship Game before the NFL will give the team an allotment of Super Bowl tickets. Season ticket holders might be able to buy tickets through a lottery after the team offers some to friends and families of the team and Cowboys' sponsors.
Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels declined to talk about distribution of Super Bowl tickets, saying that the team is focused for now on Sunday's game.
How to get tickets
At this point, fans wanting
Super Bowl tickets will have to deal with a ticket broker, such as Ticketsdirect.com or BarrysTickets.com, or a private seller on the secondary market, such as StubHub.
The NFL accepts ticket requests from the general public in the spring and then holds a lottery for
tickets in the summer. There are
tickets still available through Arizona's Super Bowl Host Committee, but they are part of hospitality packages that cost between $7,500 and $10,500.
The cost
The face value of Super Bowl tickets is between $700-$900, depending on seat location. But as the game draws closer, prices have started to increase.
Currently, the average selling price on StubHub, an eBay-owned marketplace where individuals can place tickets for sale, is $4,297. There are more than 2,000 tickets available all over the stadium.
Last year, for the Chicago Bears-Indianapolis Colts matchup, TicketsNow had a spike in Super Bowl prices the Monday after the AFC and NFC championship games. However, prices dropped every day after that until the day of the game, said TicketsNow spokeswoman Jennifer Swanson.
Prices this year range from $3,130 for an upper deck end zone section seat to 50-yard line tickets for $10,500.
"We will definitely see prices hotter and tickets fly faster than last year, especially if it's the [New England] Patriots and the Cowboys," Swanson said. "America's Team against an undefeated is the perfect storm."
If you have doubts
If you're not sure you want to shell out thousands for Super Bowl tickets before the Cowboys win the NFC, there's another option.
TicketReserve offers fans the option to buy Super Bowl tickets at face value if they pay a reservation fee. However, that reservation fee is only good if your team, in this case the Cowboys, makes it to the game. You then would have to pay for the tickets at face value. If they don't make it, you lose your reservation fee.
When the Chicago-based company began offering Cowboys' Super Bowl reservations last year, it cost $91 per ticket. Since then, people have been buying and trading the reservations, which now cost $910. Patriots reservations currently are going for $1,500, whereas Jacksonville Jaguars reservations are only selling for $150.
The site already has started taking reservations for the 2009 Super Bowl in Tampa, with Cowboys reservations currently selling at $335 per ticket.
"We are a forward market and we can launch markets anytime we feel the fans are demanding to get tickets," said TicketReserve senior director of marketing Jerry Lindman.
